After about a year and a half of a hanging around this forum and saving some dough I finally made my first venture into the vintage watch world, let alone my very first watch purchase ever. I really enjoy the colors and stepped dial of this 145.022-71 speedy. The bezel has some damage, which I kind of like, but in the right light it has a bit of a blueish grey hue which I find quite pleasing. It is definitely in need of a service. I have only wound it once and the crown seemed to skip a little and then only ran for about 24hrs. Let me know what you all think. How’d I do?

Also, I want to get an extract for this watch. I have an authorized omega dealer in my town but when I went in to ask them if they could order an extract they looked at me like I was crazy and said they’ve never heard of anything like that. Do I actually need to go to an omega boutique to order one or should I just press these guys harder to look into it?

Congratulations. Looks nice to me and you should be happy. How you did I suppose depends to some extent on how much you paid. Get it serviced and wear in good health.

Thanks all! As long as the service doesn’t come back crazy expensive I think I did ok with what I paid.

I figured this was the case. Thank you for taking the time to confirm. I’m am happy to hear I can prob do it over the phone since the nearest one is over an hour away.

My local AD said they could have it serviced for me. They don’t have a local watchmaker but send it to Utah to an independent watchmaker with an omega parts account. Since this is just an 861 and as long as I am clear about just having the movement serviced would anyone see an issue or should I be more discerning about who it is sent too? I live in central NY if anyone has any suggestions.

You can also request an abstract by email through Swatch customer service ([email protected] or [email protected]). They will send you a PDF form to fill out and you can send it back by email, with your cc#. Then they send you the abstract by courier. No need to deal with an OB. This has been covered a number of times in recent threads, and I think I even posted a scan of the request form at one point. I will attach it here again, along with a screenshot of the email they sent me with instructions.

I don't remember exactly, but it was several months. Interesting contrast with Longines.

Oh, I like that watch. The dial and handset is the heart of the watch, and yours is quite appealing to my eye. The Stepped dial, nice consistent patina on the lume and a pleasant looking bezel to boot.

I'm confident a service should put it fine running order as well. Congratulations.

Thanks again everyone, I feel pretty good about my purchase but it’s nice to get some confirmations from some folks who have been around this game much longer then me.

Much appreciate you sharing this. I missed have missed the threads this was in. Glad you posted it again. This seems like an easy route to take.
Thanks, Brook trout are prob some of the most beautiful fresh water fish. Fly fishing is my other expensive obsessive hobby.

Out here in the Rocky Mountains we have a slightly different attitude about Brookies.

Yea I bet. they have extirpated a lot of the native cutthroat out there. Very similar to what the browns and rainbows have done to the Brookies in the eastern streams where I am.
