Greetings gents, Sometimes there are amazing coincidences. Just a day or so ago a discussion here turned to a certain type of dials (https://omegaforums.net/threads/a-smashing-longines-or-a-redial.33275/). DirtyDozen12 pulled together various examples in an impressive exposé-- and boom, I found a similar watch on Ebay. I really liked its pink reflections, did a quick check on the Italian forum and jumped on it. The size is 33mm. Italian seller with 100% ratings says it's from his collection, and that it's a very early instance of a mineral crystal in a 1940s watch. Those are the seller's pics - the watch is on its way. And I'm now finding another similarly cased watch, but completely different dial. Strange as it looks like a 1950s dial in a 1940s case. Curious what you think, Thanks and best regards, Sylvie
I agree with your analysis of the second watch. The case looks to be early 1940s whereas the dial and hands are very 1950s.
Thank you Modest Proposal- I've always loved design and architecture, so that was a transferable skill Too bad this watch is a franken, the patina on that dial is beautiful. I wonder what the correct case would look like. I might be tempted to post on the Italian forum and see how Google translate works!
So this watch finally arrived yesterday, just in time to grace the new year. Its early mineral glass means I'd be afraid to damage it if I wore it daily, but its pinkish dial patina makes it look and feel like a worthy, historic, collection piece. Best regards to all and happy new year.
