Auction today and an unloved speedy 69, 29m movement went for nearly 4k stg including fees. Anyone here get it.

    It looked brown to me.
Which means it might have been cheap

Dial splodge is a turnoff, but a fair DO090.
This lighting system is not flattering to Speedmasters...maybe to others I dont know.
Almost certainly this watch will be better in hand than in photos.

Not cheap, but not crazy - how many other 29m correct ones on the market?

According to the serial, this shouldn't be a brown dial.

The OP watch serial is 29113789

In my experience some of the most attractive 145.022-69's are 2911xxxx.

Then there is the 2960xxxx series that are often an even brown, but a slightly different darker
    tone.

On the left, is a 2960xxxx with a very gentle browning. The 2911xxxx watch on the right kills it for colour, but the 2960 watch is brown.

Thought I could see a touch of brown also (the brown blotch is a pity), so went for it but went over my price given the movement report. I asked about movement and they wouldn't sent an image, only said that the movement had scratches and tarnishing visible to the naked eye. Sounded like an expensive service would be needed.

I checked the tropical 2911 serials on the examples I have owned (5 total) and the earliest is 29115XXX. @pitpro - have you ever observed one earlier?

    Nope
I don't claim to have what I would confidently call
an iron clad serial range of the brown turned dials.
But I am working on it. I will share with the community
when I have an acceptable level of confidence.
Got a picture of the 29115xxx? Love to see it.

Spare a thought for the fees, these are the killer at Fellows, circa 23% to buy and 20% to sell. In effect the seller gets £2600 when the watch costs £4K. Nice work if you can get it this auction lark.
