Ian Bostridge

I was at school with Ian Bostridge, although he was two or three years ahead of me. Yes, very good singer. Don't remember him him singing as a teenager though. We had to sing in the annual school concert. I remember Handel's Messiah and Orff's Carmina Burana. At home I was listening to the Beatles of course, with a side serving of John Mayall's Blues Band.

Fascinating! He sang alongside studying History, I think - did his doctorate on the history of witchcraft or similar. His Dichterliebe is one of finest interpretations I’ve heard.

I like many others, of course, including

Mary Stallings
Patricia Barber
Rokia Traore
Melanie de Biasio
Gretchen Parlato
Lenny Williams (early Tower of Power)
