I found most of complication more complex than chronograph is mundane.
But if you insist: Minute Repeater !

Fusee and chain, because its a remarkably over-engineered and needlessly complex solution to a problem that should never have existed to begin with.

Minute repeater followed very closely by moonphase.

It gives you the current time every time you press, or it just sounds on the quarters like the old wall clocks?

What Dennis posted is what is known as a quarter repeater. It chimes the hours first, then the number of quarter hours. A minute repeater goes one step further and chimes the number of minutes past the quarter.

It's "on demand" meaning you have to push a button or move a slide to make it strike. One that strikes on it's own would be a grand or petit sonnerie.

    This.

Like Al said above, this one chimes the time to the last quarter hour. There are also 5 minute and 1 minute repeaters.

In both cases do they chime automatically or you have to press any button?

FYI - repeaters are generally considered the pinnacle of watchmaking. They are more coveted, and generally more expensive, than perpetual calendars, tourbillions, etc.

The "budget" route to a repeater is to get one in a pocket watch. For a wrist watch, you need a very big wallet.

Tough choice so I am choosing a chronograph or a Grand Sonnerie with westminster chime.

    "budget" - good one! ;)

Mine is relatively inexpensive, being a quarter repeater. It does have a chronograph too so that adds a little to the price. The more expensive repeaters generally have more jewels ('jeweled to the hammers' is the term) and of course the more complications added, the higher the price goes. Figure on $4k for a serviced basic repeater, and go up from there as the quality goes up. I was told mine would sell for $4.5k to $5.5k depending on the market since it has the chronograph and is in an 18ct pink gold case.

You probably don't want to know what a wristwatch version sells for. A choice between a loaded BMW 5 series or a repeater is a wash as far as money is concerned.
