    Hello-

After catching the vintage watch bug (I never wore a watch for most of my 46 years) in the last two years I have made some vintage Speedmaster purchases to wear and hand off to my 11 year old son the day I leave this life. My question lies in what others have purchased for their daughters whether it be watches or other heirlooms. The challenge I face is that my 12 year old daughter is autistic...who knows if she will like watches in the future let alone want to wear one. Right now she is strictly into Legos.

So if anyone has any female watch ideas (pics) that you think are neat or other ideas please share with me.

    Cheers to all- Steve

“There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time.”

    Good quote to ponder on—

I think that any watch you pass on that has sufficient history and sentimentality will become a family heirloom. However whether that price will increase, or if your daughter will wear it, are different questions...

This is a subject pretty near and dear to my heart, as I have only one child, a daughter. I ask her after every watch buy, "Would you wear this after I am gone?". If she says yes, it goes on my keepers list. I have a vintage panda chronograph that is 35mm, so she said yes to that. I believe she also has some interest in my Hamilton Rodney. At this age she likes the different and changing color quadrant dial. She is only 13, so tastes and acceptable watch diameters are subject to change I am sure. She has told me though, that she wants to know before I sell any watch. So, there is some level of interest. I applaud your thoughts and efforts and will definitely be interested in following and seeing responses to this thread.

If you wanted to pass them both Omegas you could pick up a first generation Aqua Terra quartz. It would be easy to use and she shouldn’t have to worry about servicing it in the future only changing out batteries. I bought one for my wife several years ago and she seemed to enjoy it.

+1 for the vintage Hamilton suggestion. Slightly smaller in size, unique designs and fantastic value with quite a few models that feature diamond dials and/or bezels. A few from my collection :)

@Vanallard, what is the model's name in your top pic? With the size and 2 tone dial, I can definitely see a woman pulling that off.

Wow.. Hamilton watches are just incredible. I am a huge fan of Accutron watches. Since she has autism, winding a watch or constantly setting it might be an issue. An Accutron will keep humming along. Since you are into sports watches, check out the ladies and mens Accutron Snorkel series. You can also stick to the Bulova automatic for your watch if that is the movement you prefer and still match it. I love the idea of a father/daughter watch and am stealing this idea!

That’s a Sir Echo, it came in 14k solid yellow gold and 14k solid white gold. Some models have diamond dials.

I actually purchased that watch from an esteemed OF member after about a year long search :)

I have this gorgeous Seamaster 120 up for grabs that I think would make a lovely present for a daughter s-l1600 (10).jpg

That’s a very sound suggestion. The AT are great everyday, sports and dress watches...and can be worn by either sex

The 34mm Rolex Oyster Precisions from the 50’s/60’s look great, wear well on women and aren’t going to go out of style anytime soon.

Plus I think they’re undervalued right now.

I made a comment about Omega AT as a good choice but a good Longines flagship or some of the Heriage range might be worth considering . The Tudor BB can be unisex but maybe to heavy. And of course a OM constellation or De Ville are timeless . Hope this help but probably hinders

My wife has a men's Air-King that she sometimes wears. The size is fine, but I think she finds the style a bit masculine, especially with the bracelet.

If she is into Lego right now, consider something fun like this:

You can get an idea if she ends up liking watches and graduate to more expensive stuff later!

Haha, at one point my wife treated cats as family heirlooms and we accumulated quite a few. Still gives me palpitations to think about. We are finally down to a reasonable number...
