Was scouring through some auction sites and saw 2 Seamaster 300 watches that looks fake. They both sold for over $1K however, so either someone got hosed, or I am wrong. Both have stubbies and number 6 and 9 are off.

    Watch 1 (sold for $1K):

    Watch 2 (Sold for $1400):

So are these both fakes, or am I missing something?

I am not surprised to see fakes, I am however surprised at the number of bets they all had, and final sale price. Looking at this, I am real glad I found this site with all the knowledge and info. Not that I would have bid on these 2 specifically, but who knows, maybe down the road I would have become one of the hosed people that thought they were getting a real deal.

Total fakes. Did you see these on ebay offered by Japanese sellers or on a Japanese fake watch website?

Neither actually haha. These were on Japanese equivalent of ebay, as there is no ebay Japan for a while now. I did see some of the watches sold on there on ebay as well, but these were real deal ones, not fakes like the 2 above.

Was just curious because on ebay proper watch sellers, esp shops, from Japan typically have excellent reputation. I personally have bought on occasion and been extremely satisfied.

Buying watches on Japanese websites is not for the faint of heart.

Nah, I'd never buy anything online except, with great care and focus, on ebay, as well as this forum and TRF. That's pretty much it for me online..
Particularly I would never trust overseas foreign language websites, be it chinese, indian, filipino, vietnamese and the likes, all of which are unfortunately well known for fakes...

That depends I suppose. I actually was/am buying guitars from japan last 2 years. Made about 15-20 purchases without issues. As long as you do your research, ask questions and just use your smarts, it is quite all right. Granted, it is a lot easier to spot a fake guitar than Omega watch.
Even after shipping, duty, taxes and other fees, it ends up being cheaper and worth wile.

Both of these were private sale and not a shop. Just checked as I was curious as well. 1st seller has a rating of 7 (7 positive, no negative) 2nd seller has a rating of 16 (19 positive, 3 negative)

That is exactly what 1st led me to believe they are fake. Then I started looking more on here and few other places and saw other signs. I cant say I was 100% sure, as I just started learning about Omega's a week ago, but I had a hunch that they were. Figured it would be good to get confirmation I was right, just in case there was something I missed.

I'm thinking that, before too long, someone is going to accurately reproduce the recent/current Omega service cases and dials. If that happened it would be seriously difficult to determine what is genuine and what's fake.
