It is a ordinary Seamaster case maybee a ref. 14389 from start of the 1960's with a standard caliber 268. Dont know where the dial come from or if it is a redone dial, but i think it is a frankenwatch made of different Omega part that doesn't belong together from the start. I saw it at Lauritz.com, so the god news is that you can return it.

    Hi,

    Did you see the movement?

I beleive the dial is a original one, not redone, but if it´s a standard caliber 268, it didn´t belong to this Watch..

The dial could be original but much older than the Seamaster case, the case belongs to a younger normal Seamaster like this. As far as i know the Chronometers did not come in the Seamaster series, except for some automatic versions. If you se on the back the case is an ordinary Seamaster case very similar to this one

The dial looks like an original though scratched one from a 30T2 manual wind chronometre from the late 30s to early 40s which has been transplanted into a seamaster case. It's a parts watch as presently constituted.

Movement/dial worth a bit if its an RG movement that would have originally come with the dial.

You can easily pay for it, get a watchmaker/watch store to open it for you, photograph the movement and post them here. If it doesn't add up, just return it - and remember to tell them why and make sure they change the wording for the next time!!

Normally auction houses have someone on staff who is somewhat skilled at watches and can open the case, otherwise how do they protect themselves against fraud.

They should be able to open the caseback, I suspect that they did when they accepted the watch for auction.

I will ask the auctionhouse to open the case and send me pictures on the movement and on the inside of the case before I decide what to do with this "bargain"::confused2::

I will publish the pictures here if I get any....

Depends on the size and specialism of the auction house
A lot of the smaller houses (the majority) - who don't have experts on hand -don't open the watches and simply have a caveat in their terms and conditions noting " no Guarantee of authenticity" for watches

I recently bought a Rolex with half of the movement missing (autowind system) from a smaller antiques auction. ::shy:: Although I understood all items were sold as-is, they were thankfully nice enough to send a partial refund after I showed them pictures.

IMO, the script is incorrect/redone, even if the rest of the dial is legit. I'm talking about the signature and the logo. Am I the only one who thinks this?
