Fair price for Quartz SMP, 41mm?

I'm new to online watch shopping and trying to get a grasp of the process. As I browse sales history on the forums, it looks like a near mint/mint 2264.50 goes for around $1,400 from individuals and sponsors. So why are the online dealers asking $2100+ ?

If average market price is $1400-ish, would this be considered a low-ball offer to a dealer? Not sure what degree of haggling is expected...

    Thanks for the input.

I could very well be wrong, but I think I've seen them on Ebay in the 800-1200 range. IMHO, 2100+ for a quartz SMP is way overpriced.

I've seen automatic SMP (I forget the model) go for 1000-1500.

Ask yourself why you want a quartz over a mechanical movement.

A quick search on Ebay found several dealers asking ~$1300. My guess is that one can be had for much cheaper than that

You can't expect dealers to charge the same as individuals on forums or ebay, they trade for a living, have to eat and will apply a margin to whatever they sell. They will usually offer some kind of warranty and maybe servicing too, that isn't a free lunch so is factored into the price. We touched upon this in your last thread but I would think a 2264 could be got for around £1100 without too much effort if you are patient. The Bond dial and electric blue 2265 quartz models are available cheaper than this but the popularity of the 2254 has had a bit of a halo effect on the 2264 meaning it too is now generally more expensive than its blue SMP brothers. If you are a member of any other forums, perhaps a WTB there might be helpful also.

That makes sense. I do see the value of the extras associated with a dealer purchase, but not sure an additional 30+ percent worth. Thanks again for the insights. I'll keep an eye on the forum sales pages.

You probably won't see too many quartz SMP on the forum sales pages. A bigger question you should ask yourself is why you want a quartz? (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Good question, Dan. I'm looking for a grab-and-go watch that I can wear to work and not worry too much about. I'd also like to be able to put it on after a couple days without re-setting it or having to mess with a watch winder. I've got a couple of luxury automatics, but I tend to be a little overly protective of them.

I’ve been thinking of unloading my quartz SMP for years but always go back to wearing it because it is tough, accurate, and always ready to go.

Can’t go wrong with one quartz in the collection.

I’ve owned a couple pre-bonds. I liked the black and Mercede hands. They are great watches and pretty cheap $600-800 when it comes to a solid Omega quartz IMO - but ended up switching to a multifunction for my quartz piece. Definitely recommend it as well

Sounds like we have some overlap. I have a quartz PreBond, 2265 and a SM120m multifunction. As you say there is a place for a quartz Omega if you need a grab and go watch which doesn’t cost the Earth. Every thread like this has people scratching their heads and saying ‘just get the auto’ but the quartz models do have their uses too. Omega probably wouldn’t currently exist as a company if it hadn’t made quartz watches.

I wouldn’t trade my 2264 for the auto version, as an everyday watch to grab and go it’s perfect for my needs. £50 for a battery and reseal every three years, - you can’t beat that.
As others have stated there is always room for a quartz in the collection:)

Ah, beautiful watch. Makes me want to reconsider my preference for Bond bracelets...
