Nearly $2000 for a battery powered maintenance / parts problem? No thanks!

This is a solid 18K gold 198.003. The solid gold dial looks in original condition. These are uncommon in solid gold and much of the value IMO is in the metal. There was one recently offered for sale on an Antiquroum auction. The estimate was around 3000$, if I recall correctly, and did not sell.

I really like tuning fork movements. However, not at this price. For such a basic type movement I would look for a stainless steel watch at a much lower price range. My 2c

Thanks for the input. Looks like I'll move on then. Just started collecting Omegas and the Constellation looks great. Back to the hunt.

Unless you really like tuning fork movement I suggest stick with mechanical movement. Caliber 5XX or 75X will provide quality pedigree movement. For example with 2K budget (probably add few hundred more) you could find a nice solid gold C case Constellation.
Or for about 1.2-1.3 K range you can find a nice SS Connie pie pan.

Nice watch and parts/maintenance are not a problem with these watches, at least for now, when you know where to have it done ;-) Having said that, this is one is way too expensive, £700/£800 would be more appropriate.

Thanks for the coments and insight. From a collector/investor perspective would the Pie Pan Consellation be a better alternative? I am VERY new at this and appreciate any ideas that can assist me in putting together an outstanding Omega collection. Any books, literature or other materials you can suggest to increase my knowledge base?

Yes. Make that a resounding YES. Just be careful because there are a ton of substandard and franken watches out there.

Amazing luck. After wading 12 pages deep in a google search I was able to find a signed copy of the book a mere 3 blocks from my office.
Now in my hands and it looks like I have a little reading to do. Thanks so much.

That's handy, as walking much further with AJTT can be pretty hard work!
