The estimates seem and bit optimistic but it will be interesting to see what it sells for. The Christie's MIR flown watch sold for $20,000. That watch included a bracelet as well. This one is interesting because it's on a strap. I wonder how they were originally flown? Was it just the heads and the bracelets added upon return for sale? That may explain the lack of bracelet here.

    Edit -SP

I may a lone dissenter, but stuff like this---putting a box of watches on a rocket so they can be sold as "flown"---really pisses me off.

Are the estimates in Australian or U.S. $$? Price estimates seem OK if it is in Australian currency.

I couldn't figure that out for sure, wouldn't an Australian auction house note that if it wasn't in the local currency? I checked the FAQ and didn't see an explanation.

Found it, all prices are in Australian currency....
All values expressed in Mossgreen Pty Ltd catalogues (in any format) are in Australian Dollars (AU$). All bids, "hammer price", "reserves", "Buyers Premium" and other expressions of value are understood by all parties to be in Australian Dollars (AU$) unless otherwise specified.

That makes it a bit more realistic. Maybe the estimates on the auction page should be represented as AU$ and not $.

Edit - A better perspective on estimates.

    $27,171 - $31,700

I'm just curious. Does anyone know what the original retail price was for Mir watch?

This is still one heck of a piece of memorabilia :)

On a blander note - when "pros" like spationauts etc... get handed watches by manufacturers as part of their "mission equipment", who owns the watches? The space agency (whichever it is) or the pilot himself? Who should get the proceeds of the sale? Anyone has some good insights on these "sponsorships programs" overall who don't focus on the people themselves but on the organizations (as opposed to Raphael Nadal getting RM's for instance)...

    Thanks for educating me :)

This appears to be a non issue watch. Normally astronauts are given x weight to be able to take up with them. Looks like someone used their allowance to take up some watches.

Normally issued watches stay in the hands of the respective agency that issued them. They are not given to astronauts by manafacturers.

A truly high priced speedy would be one with a NASA serial number engraved on it. Afiak one has never come up for sale.

Maybe you meant this in jest. This is not an individuals watch it is part of the 28 (stainless steel) MIR flown watches that were carried to MIR for Omega.

A small handful of NASA flown Speedmasters have been sold at auction that contained the NASA SEB number. One non-flown NASA Speedmaster #87 was sold as well.

One has to wonder why they don't also sell other stuff that has been on the space station.

    Fruit of the loom underwear
    Pens
    Pencils
    2 nails clippers
Condoms.... Hey it gets lonely up there
    I phones, Ipads....Just pads
Earplugs: because there's that guy that is still trying to prove in space everyone hears you scream so he keeps yelling.

Shoe laces, Toilette paper etc etc

    It is ridiculous.

Hit the low end of the estimate - closed at $44,460AUD/$33531USD including buyer's premium of 24% (so won with $33790AUD/$25521USD.)

Surprised no one got the LE Schumacher Reduced which was the next lot.

I don't think so because with s/n 48.309.xxx I suspect this is not the original limited edition. Why also they did not indicate the LE number if it was the real one?

I'm with you on that. Just double-checked mine and it's 48.370.xxx so I'm not sure it was one of the 500. Good spot.
