Time to give the Explorer 1016 some love. With the help of other collectors I’ve started a reference catalogue for the 1016 -- Explorer1016.com. While it is anything but finished I’d rather open it up now and hear your comments. If you have a 1016, I would love to add your example to the database and make sure my serial number estimates for each dial are as correct and verifiable as possible. Shoot me a DM if you're able to help.

Of the Rolex sports models, I think the Explorer I is the least well described - or at least tied for that dubious honor with the Milgauss. As there is more and more scrutiny surrounding high priced vintage sports watches, I thought that everyone would benefit from a public schema to frame discussions of potential purchases.

I have a 1016 from the last production year 1989. And it’s a keeper

 

Just a note / update -- I finally updated the site to include the dial catalogue --> explorer1016.com/dial-catalogue

I'm still looking for a higher resolution versions of a few that I don't have ready access to (Mark 4 and 5 matte dials) if anyone has those and would be able to help. Cheers and Happy Easter & Passover weekend for those who celebrate.
