Experience with Fortis Cosmonautis?

    Hey All,

I’m considering a Cosmonautis for my next toy. I called the US distributor this morning and the guy there told me that the B-42 “Official Cosmonautis” is larger and heavier than the “Classic Cosmonautis.” But when I search the web, including that distributor’s site, they are listed as having the same dimensions.

Soooo... Anyone here handled either/both? I don’t want to make yet another expensive mistake by buying a grandfather clock for my wrist. I gave away a Seamaster chronograph to my son in law recently because I found it too clunky for me. Both of these Fortis watches are listed at 42mm diameter and 15mm thick. Large, but not horribly so.

    Thoughts?

Different bracelets ;) or are they giving the weight of one on bracelet the other not? What’s the weight difference?

    Aaah.

Aaaah. Gotcha. Sadly, weights are not given. Just dimensions. But I make it a habit to always buy the model with a bracelet, if an option, as I figure a strap can be more easily and cheaply sourced should I ever want to switch up.

Yes. That it the main feature of both models. Sadly, the invisibility makes the obligatory wrist-shot a bit difficult.

Can you help us out by showing which ones you mean?

On the Fortis website, the B-42 Official Cosmonauts is a three hander:

Then there's the Official Cosmonauts Chronograph:

And then there are "classics" of the chronograph in different colour ways:

Comparing the official cosmonauts chronograph to one of the classic chronographs, they do appear to be different sizes/shapes.

The classic has a thinner bezel, different lugs, crown guards...

I’m sorry... I’m looking at the Chronograph in both Classic and B-42 Official. I haven’t 100% decided on my Classic preference, but am leaning hard toward the light face with the steel bezel. Nowhere can I find them compared side-by-side and the dimensions are the same if Fortis’ specifications are to be believed. It seems as if the only way to acquire one is to buy online. Thus, my inability to compare. The few YouTube reviews I’ve found only talk of the B-42.

The brand is going bankrupt, I don't know if someone has made an offer yet to buy it back.
If it does, I assume that new and used watches will take a big hit. I would wait a bit prior to a purchase.

Very sad news though, I think it has always been a family run business...

Actually... This does not concern me, other than to move this model to the top of my wish list in case it becomes unavailable. The movement is a rather common one that can be serviced just about anywhere.

And... I received my answer on another forum. One guy had both. The dimensions do seem to be the same, but for some reason, the B-42 is just a lot heavier.

The case of the Classic Cosmonauts is smaller at the bottom at both sides. Just take a look on the big lugs of the B42. The Classic Cosmonaut has got a smaller shape on both sides. Take a look on the case under the pushers.

Be surprising given they’re launching new models, and have units out for review...

Not a brand I get a lot of to service, but I've had a few. The watches I've serviced were all using ETA movements so from that standpoint reliable. Case, dial, hands, etc. all seemed fine given the price point.
