Hello - I've researched the Clapton (881101/01), and am going to try to learn more about the earlier reference, the 222102/01. I have seen one at Philllips, and wondering if any OFers own one or have info on their history (other than apparently very small production in a limited time...). I'm more interested in the /01, but given how few there are, info on the /02 is useful as well. Thanks
The models I've seen all have red chrono hand. I like this watch, almost looks like a panda Speedy from afar.
I do believe they came with red chrono hand. As mentioned by fellow OF member @jordn : "Ref. 881101 immediately followed the Ref. 222102, and this early example bears all of the same characteristics of its predecessor: smaller pushers, earlier crown, and blue chrono hand (instead of red)." https://omegaforums.net/threads/universal-geneve-tri-compax-clapton-ref-881101-01.58162/
I’ve compiled notes on any seen/references in case of interest: https://alphahands.com/faq/universal-geneve-222102/
@subregister found some good pictures of one that sold previously a while back - 222102/02 Evil Clapton with an interesting silver chrono hand. From the sales post: "Rare early Universal Genve Tricompax ref. 222102/2. This piece is one of the very first Tricompax with inverted Panda dial and twisted case and appears in absolute authentic and unmolested condition. It comes directly from the first owner and has never been for sale on the open market. Case and caseback have never been polished (serial 2335xxx). The „nolume dial“ is in a beautiful condition with clearwhite subdials, hour and minute hand still have the original lume. The big second hand is the silver version like we could find it only in a very few early pieces of this refference yet. The bezel has fadet into a nice greytone and looks just awesome on the wrist. The UG 281 caliber with all it´s functions like moonphase, month, day and date and the chrono works exactly and is in a very good condition." For documentation purposes:
There are 881101 / 01 Eric Clapton UG Tricompax with blue chronograph hand. Most examples have a red chronograph hand, this is my observation.
