One or two of us have been discussing the conventions around the ‘casual chic’ dress code at the upcoming Fratello x Omega event. And I was reminded of an event I attended last month where the dress code was the above ‘Evening Dress With Decorations...&cetera. The event was The Clockmakers’ Company Livery Dinner in The City Of London Plaisterers’ Hall. Certainly the standout social event for me in 2018. The decorations were up, for sure.
One or two OBEs in attendance ... Mr Roger Smith’s shown above. Unfortunately, he wasn’t wearing his Omega Megaquartz but he has since joined in the fun on #megaquartzmonday over on Instagram at my insistence.
I only get to wear my dress uniform once or twice a year, but I never wear a wristwatch when I do. I have a pocket watch that gets dusted off for the occasion and it is a nice touch, I think. What lovely surroundings for your evening! Are those medals "normal-sized" so to speak?
Hopefully not. Accepted protocol (where I come from) is to wear miniatures with evening mess dress or a dinner suit or other regalia. Full size and mini's shown below.
Roger Smith, OBE. Lovely Gentleman. This was taken in the week that he received the award from Her Majesty. With regard to the MBE in the earlier picture, I do not know to whom that belongs.
