With regard to the image with the three handsets posted above, I do note that the dial seen on the version with the Mercedes hands shows all of the dial indices “pulled into a smaller diameter” from all other dials I’ve seen. That dial is noticeably different from the others. Was that image perhaps a graphic mock up for sales and marketing purposes prior to production? To my eye, the Mercedes hands and the second hand with the round meatball index seem so out of character, when compared to the dial with its triangular “language” of the indices and lume plots.

The second image appears to me to show a dial with proportions close to what we normally see in most examples now seen. And to my eye, that handset seen with that dial appear to be more in keeping with the dial, when compared to the Mercedes set. And they sure look the part on Shabbaz’ restoration.

I do believe the big lume hands on the third photo pull it all together aesthetically. I believe a Diver watch from this era calls for big lume plots which tie in closer to the overall design of the dial. That design architecture also follows the early Zodiac Seawolf, which I believe pre-dates the KonTiki by some 4 years. Here’s an image of an early sea wolf with an early handset without the central spines on the H and M hands. The light mint green lume colored hands appear to be pretty typical in other examples I’ve seen.
