...just for entertainment, my "new" Eterna from 1954/55. Actually a "small one" with only 33.2mm (you fight for every tenth!) case diameter, but I haven't been so happy about a watch for a long time. I guess nobody polished it, the dial and the hands have some patina. Inside, the 1409U, 12.5", thus relatively large and with some Zenith 135 appeal, still with a screw balance and nicely decorated. As a bonus, there was a buckle that fits quite well, even if there is no ball bearing in the 1409U...

Lovely watch, HU. And thanks for the good photos, especially of the pristine movement. Well-executed pearlage on a baseplate always impresses me, and that is a big balance wheel!

    Cheers,

What a lovely watch. Is that a “sandwich” dial?

I have a similar style with the smaller 1408u. The movements are so nice. Sorry I don’t have a photo of mine!

    Hi Ted,
no, not a sandwich dial. I would call it "sunken numbers and indexes". And it is printed, as all gilt dials, black on gold (not vice versa).
Congratulations on your watch, it looks like new!

Now the 1409 has a slightly older brother in my collection. He has probably already experienced a lot, but he is doing well.

Hu, I have a similar dial as your black dialed Eterna. But mine measures 35mm and has the 1249T automatic movement with bearings.

I’ll try to find a movement shot to add to this great thread!
