ETA Movement Service Cost?

I have a 25 year old ETA movement in an older Baume & Mercier Riviera (date funtion only). I had the watch for close to 30 years and never had it serviced. I knew it was due, and sure enough today it started acting up. Anybody have a sense of what the service cost would be?

Anybody have any recommendations for where to service?

Thanks

Any independent watchmaker can service this. Cost depends on who you take it to.

Watch makers charges range from reasonable to ridiculous from my experience.
My own watch maker charges about NZ$90.0 ( US$ 65 ) for a standard ETA non chronograph movement for just a service, repairs are of course extra, parts cost and time.
I have seen many quotes from other watch makers for eye watering charges but I guess they need to make a living and have a good lifestyle too.

$100-$500 depending on where you take it. The quality of the service may also vary quite a bit.

I would shop around before settling on that high a price.

Hi, I'm a new member w a story to share. I live in FL. I took a 22 yr old Omega Constellation quartz to an Omega Botique in FL. The first thing they asked me was when was the last service? I don't remember if it was done, maybe 15yrs ago. Then he was pushing the service. I said no just want the battery replaced. So I left the watch with him since they couldn't do it that day. He said they're going to test it to see if it needs the service and if so they wouldn't do the battery. I asked him about changing just the gasket and he said they only do the battery, the gasket is changed only with the service. I called them a few days later and they said they didn't have the battery in stock and it would take 2 weeks to get it. I then went and picked up the watch and paid $30 plus tax.
2 weeks later the watch stopped working. I called another Omega Botique nearby and they told me if the watch stopped working then it needs servicing at a cost of $550.
I found a local guy who changed the battery for $5 (Energizer brand), and the watch started working again. He saved me the battery that was recently replaced at Omega. It was a Renata 321 battery.
If you google it I found some reviews from others saying it lasted only a few days, etc.
I contacted the Omega shop that did the battery change and I told one of the guys I wanted an refund. He said bring it in, with the watch and the receipt.
I went after a week to the store and that person wasn't working that day. The salesman that initially took the watch and was pushing the service was there and he said there are no refunds, and said the watch needs servicing. I said then how's it working again? We were going to have an argument, then a lady who id herself as the assistant manager interfered and said she can't issue the refund immediately and that she'll have the other person contact me. And that other person contacted me and did the refund over the phone.
Had this not happened I would have had to write a more detailed review on Google.

I took the watch a week later to a local jeweler to see how much it would cost to replace the whole ETA movement. They opened up the watch and said $270.
I asked how much to replace the gasket? $35

I read somewhere that polishing the watch should cost around $40.
The watch is still working with the new Energizer battery so no need to replace the movement.
But I would get a few more quotes to see if I can get a lower price.
If you look online the ETA movements range from $50 tp $100+

So be wary of the Omega Botiques, they seem to want you to do the service. They talk about disassembling the whole watch and oiling the gears, etc. Not sure if a quartz watch has all those parts that need oiling. If there's something wrong with the movement, I would think that they just replace it with another ETA movement and not repair the 20 yr old movement.

A thorough service involves more than just attending to the mechanism. It is not uncommon for a watch to fail because a component of the case (crystal, gasket, crown, etc.) has failed, first! Resulting in the mechanism failing. A full service attends to the case and component parts, as well as the mechanism. If your watch hasn’t been serviced for fifteen years (as you suggested), then it needs a full service. Watch repair people are like a lot of people (auto mechanics for example). They simply will not provide a level of service that they cannot guarantee. Try telling your car mechanic exactly how you want your car fixed, and exactly what you want done, and nothing more! Chances are you’ll get the bum’s rush.

This is my mother's watch. It's worn for 8hrs a day X 5 days. No moisture contact. My point is that it's still working with the right battery. I think we paid $800 for it. She don't want to spend money on a major service that it don't need. I don't want to be pressured or scared into it. They examined the watch and tested it and said the movement and seal is fine before the battery change. I don't want to spend $$ on it to make it look like new. It's a 20 yr old watch. The point I am making is that they're trying to push me into doing an unnecessary service.

I also have a 99 Mercedes SL 500. It doesn't get driven much, 8 miles a day X 5 days a week. I am supposed to follow Mercedes oil change indicator and change oil every 10-15k miles. If I ever take it to the dealer for anything, they do a free inspection and give me a quote for $10k for all the things I should do which is rip off. I change the oil and filter every 5k or less (myself) , trans fluid every 30k, diff fluid every 30k. Air filters every 1-2 yrs. I don't follow their A service or B service which is just a glorified oil change. If I did it their way I would be spending $10k a year at the Mercedes dealer. Which now I hear is $190 per hour. But, I'll get a free sandwich and get to use their massage chair and watch TV on their flat screen TV, and browse the internet on their Sony computers......

I would guess you could have an eta serviced for $350, but thats without any replacement parts of needed, and probably not a polish.
