i have on order a 145.012-68... It comes on 1039 bracelet 516 end links ... I am not a bracelet guy ...so I am thinking of shouldering the cost of the watch by putting the 1039 for sale.... Pictures from dealer looks like the condition would be fair to good condition ... With it fitting a 7.5 inch wrist... What do you all think would be a range of listing value on a forum and not the bay
    Thx

I'll give you $100 right now!

    :)

Seriously though, there's one on ebay right now with a single 516 for $1400 usd BIN.

Ebay sold sales show them ranging from about $650 to $800 with 516's.

Keep the bracelet, it might be worth more than the watch in the future. :)

What of the UK sales bringing over $1600 USD that were being discussed a few weeks ago?

Caveat: I think watches and sought-after watch accessories sold (and bought) in the UK bring higher prices since their customs duty is very high to begin with - but still...

IMHO the market has not yet proven to rise to a 1000 US dollar 1039 BCT. May be coming, but not yet.

    + 1 to that

If one 516 goes for $200+ then I'd agree we are standing on the doorstep of the $1000 - 1039/516 combo. Hold on to your butts...

The relief of the $ received initially may be short lived if these prices trends continue. You can always move it later.

Brilliant call. Your watch will ALWAYS be worth more as a complete watch, and there is a very real possibility right now that you have an intact watch, with its original bracelet and endlinks coming to you; if you were to break it up and sell the bracelet, you would be guaranteed to never have a complete watch again.

Even if you choose not to wear the bracelet, keep it!

One thing I can share with you is this: when I got my first Speedmaster, it was a vintage Ω321. I still have it. My impression was that the 1039 was relatively light and "tinny". But I've since come to find, when looking at photos of ALL Speedmasters, and seeing Speedmasters in person, there is NOTHING like the vintage 1039 (and comparable) bracelets. Like 1950's and 1960's bias-ply tires on classic cars, NOTHING completes the vintage look on a vintage Speedmaster, like the classic expansion, folded-link bracelet.

Yes, the modern solid-link machined bracelets are great: but they look best on a modern 3570.50.00 Ω1861: each in it's place!

Enjoy your watch, and especially enjoy it on its bracelet!

If you have any questions about how to size your 1039, feel free to post to this thread for guidance.

Then here is another question if I keep the 1039 bracelet....would i keep it on the 145.012 coming ... Switch it to my 105.003 Eddy, or my '61 seamaster 300

absolutely on the watch coming. Two reasons: first, it may well be the bracelet original to the watch. Second, the correct bracelet for a 105.003 is a 7912 with #6 end links. The 516 (and 16) endlinks are 20mm, versus 19mm for the #6 endlinks.

Finally, your 61 SM 300 also requires 19mm endlinks, and would either use a 7912 or 7077 bracelet. All very similar in appearance to the 1039, but the clasps are slightly different. As are, of course, the clasp codes.

Try wearing your incoming Speedmaster on the 1039. See what happens

EDIT: in a good way

I'm kind of curious on this topic myself. I have a perfectly good 1039 with 516's sitting in my safe, and I know I'll never wear it. My Speedy is on a really nice Omega Nato at the moment, and may one day end up on a JB Champion if I am lucky, but the 1039 really doesn't do it for me.

I have no plans to sell my 145.012 - it is a birth year watch, and while not perfect (lost some lume from a few plots) it is as good as an example as I am likely to find without spending serious coin, and I got so lucky on the find/price that even considering getting a different speedy seems like it would jinx it :)

So having a 1039 I'll never use sitting in a safe seems... wasteful?

If I were you I'd keep in your safe unless you need the $$$$, I've had mine since new and my 1039 now sits in the drawer.

    Isn't the 1035 with 506 ends viable for later 105.003's (aka 145.003)? 506s' are also 19mm
