So I came home from work and cracked open a beer...figured I'd see what was floating around the internet. Lo and behold, a very honest transitional Speedmaster from an estate sale is posted just a few minutes prior. Took about 30 seconds for me to hit "Buy" and then about 10 minutes to phrase the explanation correctly to my wife (who was sitting right behind me).

I think it's going to clean up very, very nicely once it arrives.

Can anyone spot the nice surprise?

220 bezel, well done. Should clean up a treat:thumbsup: Surprised it has the 220 bezel with the applied logo dial.
Mine is a 30 mil with painted logo.

Oh yeah, that's going to be nice. You can just tell that these pictures suck like a classic estate auction. This is going to be great in the flesh. Might cost you a handbag or a pair of shoes but you'll still come out ahead. I like to get a gift card for a massage - much cheaper and gets the wife out of the house so I can watch football or do some "research". Your mileage may vary. Let's see some post pick-up pictures as soon as possible. Nice score!

Ah, nothing like alcohol to release any inhibitions about chancing an internet buy ;)

    Nice one, congrats!

Thanks Selbo...luckily she's had enough time to understand that there's a...certain...method to the madness.

And good eye, Barking Mad. I'm actually very curious about how the 220 bezel ended up on the '68 because as I understood it, they typically came on '69 Speedies. The serial on this one is a 273XXXXX, which seems earlier than anyone else that has a 220 bezel, and most of the '68 transitionals have DON bezels. But hey, I guess if you're not going to have a DON bezel, it's a good consolation prize to have a 220.

That one deserves an Extract from the Archives

    Seems like a good catch

I've had one of those days once as well... Got home, opened a beer... One thing let to another, and suddenly I ended up with a transitional with a "special surprise" as well.

*Sigh* Those years stationed in Bangkok...

Yeah unfortunately the extract wouldn't help identify the bezel that was on it originally...right? Given that it's original owner that wasn't a collector (this was the only watch in the sale), I doubt he would have sourced a 220 and put it on the watch. And it wouldn't be a service replacement either, I don't think. So truly miffed about how it ended up on a 27 million serial.

I sincerely hope the transitional did not get an opportunity for deployant deployment...

I saw it too, and had hit BIN, and then I thought to myself, my wife doesn't know about the other Speedy Pro that is arriving next week...and I stopped myself.

Congrats and cannot wait to see how it turns out.

Haha that's awesome. Every 10 seconds the "[X] People Viewed Per Hour" would creep up by 4-5 more people. I asked what the serial # was and figured someone would snatch it before I heard back. Thankfully the answer came instantly and as soon as I saw 273XXXXX I hit "Buy."

... will be interesting to compare yours production date.

Oh, useless detail - therefore utterly indispensable - my car is from april 10th. 1969, made 20 days later ... but delivered to Italy :)
