Hi all!

My first entry here, I've tried the search function but hope that your combined knowledge can help me better.

I'm looking at a Omega Speedmaster Professional 145 022-76 ST, with serial number 31318674 (picture below) and trying to find out the production year. Depending on chart and ideas I've got the suggestions: 1969, 1971 and 1979.

Perhaps anyone here can be more precise?

All the best,
@tbonewatches

The 31xxx serial can by all means not belong to a 76-iteration. The Watch in question has a Stepdial, so latest a '74 but that won't either match a 31xx. Did you see the caseback inside? does it say 145022-76? This one is more likely a 71, maybe with wrong caseback but for sure with a wrong hour/minute-handset (MK-Series Hands) and a (not a showstopper) Drop End Chrono-hand used on earlier versions, up to 145012-68.

And yes, be careful 😀

Thanks a mill for your reply!
The watch is up for auction at a respected auction house in Sweden, but not at all specialized in watches. More antique furniture, art etc.
I don't know how they figured the reference 145 022-76 ST. I also found that strange with the serial number.

Given all the details about the stepdial, handset etc. what would your best guess be on the correct reference?

Thanks again!

As mr_yossarian said, most likely a -71…

Do you have any other pics? Does this dial looks brownish or I have to worry about my screen rendering / eyesight ?

Are you interested in bidding or do you just have the production date question?

I was thinking of bidding, now the price is right on the line what could be fair. And given all the uncertainty around reference and parts, I am hesitating.

Obviously the dial lume is in quite bad condition also

Case is quite soft and especially the lower right lug has lost its definition due to polishing IMO
