Just in. Left it at my watchmaker today and - he delivered as usual. A new crystal, including the gasket, came out of a drawer... I really like him.
Helped my watchmaker by taking care of the case and bezel myself. The old gasket had "melted" and then hardened. It clogged up the case, bezel (both the outer rim and the cogs underneath - and some gunk on the front) and the crystalring/crystal. As usual I forgot to take pictures of the original state of things... But here is some of what came off. Here is some of the dirt that was on the outside though Taking an ultrasonic bath After hours with only tops (cottonsticks?) and medical petrol (?) - I do not know the English words for it. One thing I noticed afterwards was that the patina on the bezel triangle disappeared. It is white now. Hmmm....It will be a mismatch compared to the dial indexes. Not good. On another note - I rather have a clean and white triangle than black rubber goo on the bezel. Easthetically it will work with the white triangle as the dial has double indexes - the patinated tritium and then the inner ring of white painted ones. Well - on monday it will go back to the watchmaker for assembly.
Beautiful watch, I had almost pulled the trigger on one about a year ago.. If it was not the fact that the previous owner decided to remove the PVD coating with a knife. I am looking forward to seeing the final result of yours!
Update - left the case, etc. at my watchmaker today. Really looking forward to getting it back. Movement Rotor and parts I am thinking... tropic rubber strap a la this ad (pic borrowed from net - where - I have forgot): On the same note - does anyone know where I found this one? A lot of fun for different brands:
Having a good watchmaker in this hobby makes things a lot easier... finding one mathing ones expectations is not easy.. Good for you!.
Best solvent I have found for gaskets that have turned to "goop" is alcohol - I use 99% in the shop for various things. Cheers, Al
My watchmaker showed me this today. An old Swedish magazine from 1972 - with some interesting ads: The actual watch is due in a couple of days.
Today I picked it up. Put it on a black mesh. The mesh is a little too glossy. If I cannot fix that it will get a Tropic rubber strap. I really like this Enicar - It means business, it looks different and there are not that many around. This particular one has just the right level of patina to be a real user. I just wish I was younger and still in the special forces...
I vote for oyster. Great looking watch by the way. I haven't seen them in black. Been looking around for a Enicar Sherpa, but the prices are crazy, at least on ebay.
Oh definitely an oyster. There's a sea pearl in there! Of course they couldn't come out and call it an oyster case. This is a nice one... the PVD coating on these is so often ruined.
Beautiful. Another under appreciated brand (though this, as has been said, is still an expensive reference, relative to the brand).
Very nice!! Love this. I don't think the triangle is a mismatch...it looks good in the images. Did he clean it or was it yellow because of the original crystal? In the hopes you bore of this...dibs.
love these... purchased from the original owner on the Dutch coast who wore it around the world in the offshore oil industry...
I really like the vintage enicars. I have an issued super dive, but this one is one of my favorites. I think either strap looked good and the pvd doesn't appear chipped at all. Nice find
