Engravings on case look suspicious?

Hi all,
I’m looking at purchasing a 1949 Seamaster.
The only thing holding me back is the engraving inside, especially the “ WI” in SWISS looks a bit off. Is this ok? The serial number adds up and seems to be a genuine watch from a genuine seller. Just wanted some opinions from people who will know a lot more than me!
any advice appreciated! I’m probably just being over cautious. Thanks!

Are you referring to the engraving inside the caseback? I believe it says “fab suisse”, not “Swiss”, which is completely fine.

However, you have other issues to worry about - refinished dial, heavily polished case, incorrect crown, and I think incorrect (too long) hands..

I recommend you keep looking.

I'm more bothered by the dial and case. It's a genuine watch, but not a good. one.

Wow thank you. I have a lot to learn. I assumed because the dial seemed faded it hadn’t yet been restored which is my preference. Sounds like it’s been messed around with. Shame as I love the look of it. Not cheap though at £600 so will take your advice and carry on looking. Really appreciate your advice, extremely grateful.
I really struggle to find anything I like so that’s a bit of a bummer. This one Im also interested in but not sure if I like it enough. I can spend hours looking and not find any I like.
Probably a good thing actually. All the best

Nothing wrong with wanting a restored watch with a freshly painted dial, but as this is a group of collectors, originality is what 99% of us seek, so you will get feedback based on that perspective. Most would prefer a watch that’s original with a little patina than one that’s been freshly polished and painted.
