Just been reading this article on fellow OF member @Mitka s blog. Really impressed with the end result. Not for the patina crowd perhaps, but boy what a difference it made! Full story here: https://mitka.co.uk/2018/11/19/longines-case-back-enamel-repair/ Cheers!
Superb! I wonder if he’s able to easily remove ‘bad’ enamel.. I have an otherwise sweet Flagship that has a very poor quality re-enamel job I could send him...
I heard somewhere nail enamel gave decent results, and since it's removable good for those of us with clumsy hands who want a temporary solution ...
I'm fairly certain that the correct chemical can remove that... Acetone might do the job BTW I do not remove any of the original enamel so the photo you see is the result of both original and new... I'm not claiming the case back is 100% like when new, but I have to say it's pretty darn good and I'm pleased with the result!
Had seen a similar article that used “enamel pens”, but it involves putting the caseback in the oven. I didn’t have the balls to do that, risk ruining the caseback
Not my watch. Just impressed by Mitka’s work. It requires practice and a very steady hand to get a good result. I definitely would have asked @Mitka for assistance.
I have long thought those Longines logos were done with vitreous enamel, not paint or acrylic. Am I wrong? If vitreous enamel, might it be possible to re-enamel them with vitreous enamel?
Not sure about the vitreous enamel, but I do remember someone posting on either OF or WUS about enamel pens used for pottery. They tried using them on a flagship caseback and it actually turned out very well
And link to the guy who tried the enamel pens https://uhrforum.de/threads/restaurierung-des-bodens-meiner-longines-flagship.117602/
