Ok, this may be the dumbest question of the day, but it's been bugging me, and I can't find an answer, so.... What's with the number in the red box attached to 'LATEST' at the top of the screen? It just keeps counting up (it's up to 165 now). I assumed it was unread posts, so I selected 'mark all read' but the number never goes down. So, put me out of my misery and teach me something new for the day. WTF is the number, and how do I change it/get rid of it? Cheers.
So click on Latest > Alerts and you will see all these. Once you viewed this page, the counter will be reset to 0 until you receive another like...
I click on it and It allows me to see who is vaguely amused (or otherwise) by the 'total and utter nonsense' that I contribute to this forum.
Now that we're here, I would love to see an option like this enabled in the future, so that @ mentions could optionally trigger an email notification. https://xenforo.com/community/resources/user-mentions-improvements-by-xon.4416/
Don't worry, mate. That number in my red box was into four figures before I worked out that clicking "alerts" showed the notifications and reset the counter. I didn't dare show my inability to computer by asking.
I only now learn what the wretched ascending red numeral is, having previously determined that I could enjoy the Forum by studiously ignoring it.
LOL. When I first got my apple watch there was always this red dot over the time. For weeks I walked around with the red dot having no idea what it was. On that watch it means that you have message of some sort and that you should swipe down. The only thing I miss now that I wear a speedie every day is the weather function.
And that reminds me of this one: It was autumn, and the Indians on the remote reservation asked their new Chief if the winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was an Indian Chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn't tell what the weather was going to be. Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he replied to his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared. Also, being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is the coming winter going to be cold?" "It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold indeed," the meteorologist at the weather service responded. So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more wood in order to be prepared. A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. "Is it going to be a very cold winter?" "Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "it's definitely going to be a very cold winter." The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of wood they could find. Two weeks later, he called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?" "Absolutely," the man replied. "It's going to be one of the coldest winters ever." "How can you be so sure?" the Chief asked. The weatherman replied, "The Indians are collecting wood like crazy."
OP asked: These little red numbers are very important, because there are basically 2 elements of criteria for maintaining a confident, healthy state of mind in this modern age of on-line, cyber space, communication. 1) The total number of your Omega Forum likes should be roughly double the total number of your Omega Forum posts. 2) You shouldn't be able to pee on your own testicles.
