Bought this Elgin Shockmaster on EBay months ago for a low price. In a frenzy, I sent it to a watchmaker in Ohio for repair. For months, never heard back and no responses to emails. Gave it up for a loss, no big deal, probably saved money by not getting it fixed. Then I finally received it in the mail. While the case is meh, I really love the dial with its black Art Deco design. I think the hands other than the second hands are original. I put it on a spare brown band. Not sure about the movement, not skilled enough to open back. Nevertheless, only losing 10 seconds a day. 4DBFEC88-9BD5-466E-B029-86277DE409B9.jpeg 3C8EE384-AAF7-424A-A93C-206DC9A5527E.jpeg C14B0D75-FED7-41F2-8071-DB2487BCC9FB.jpeg 8A86C77D-63AD-4E6C-B2D1-368AB3A0F3BB.jpeg

Firms that produced watches in chrome plated cases back in the day, obviously gave no thought to the possibility that the watch would still be around, and cherished, about 70 years later on. Is this a Swiss movement, or did Elgin actually make a movement of their own design, domestically? Enjoy.

They did produce domestic movements, but this is Swiss, probably an AS. 061081C9-CB8E-4F71-A23A-7D9D0A580B7A.jpeg

I’ve seen Elgin automatics with AS 1361 movements.
