·For your consideration, a Wakmann chronograph with a Venus cal 188 movement. The chronograph has been completely restored in 2017.
Wakmann has been the US importer for Breitling, using the code WOG on movement. As with other importers Wakmann, see Wittnauer and Longines, was also manufacturing watches under their name.
“As an importer and manufacturer of high quality timepieces, Wakmann Watch Company was founded in New York in 1946, and became known as experts in the world of chronographs and multipurpose timekeeping. At the time, the US had increased duties on imported Swiss watches, which opened the door for Wakmann to partner up with Breitling. Wakmann would receive a batch of nearly complete watches from Switzerland, which would then undergo final assembly before being sold under the Wakmann name. Beyond “re-branded” watches, Wakmann also supplied timekeeping devices for the Armed Forces, U.S. Government, commercial airlines, and radio/television studios as part of their Breitling relationship. Later the company would be purchased by Breitling and absorbed into the larger and more successful umbrella.” (Wound for Life 2015, http://www.woundforlife.com/2015/07/20/lessons-in-wristory-whats-a-wakmann/)
The watch is in excellent condition (excellent in the true words meaning, not the hyped up ebay ratings where it is a euphemism for acceptable). The watch is ready to be worn and will provide years of joy.
The ivory dial has golden markers for the hours, roman numerals for the even hours and triangles for the uneven hours resulting in a very classy dress watch appearance. On the periphery are two scales, in red is a decimal (I believe) scale and in black is the tachymeter scale. These two-tone scales add two the classic look of the watch. Two sub registers record the minutes and the running seconds. The minute recorder features the in the 1950s common 3, 6, 9-minute telephone markers. The hands are gold plated and have some lume missing, which adds to the elegant patina. The dial has some light scratches and is signed France.
The case is gold plated with a stainless-steel back. The plating is complete and has some patina. The case shows sign of wear with micro scratches and one larger scratch at 8:45.
The crystal is new and has been replaced during last years’ service.
The watch features a gold plated polished bezel.
The movement is the venerable Venus 188, that later got rebranded as the Valjoux 7730. It features 17 jewels, an incabloc “suspension” and is signed Wakmann, France and WOG. Every function runs smooth as intended.
The watch comes on a gently worn 18mm black alligator print leather strap with gold plated buckle
The watch measures roughly 36mm diameter w/o crown, 47mm lug to lug and 1.2mm high
The watch has been completely restored by Craig B. in 2017. I will provide the buyer with a copy of the relevant email exchange with Craig, specifying the work that has been done.

I am looking for US $799
PayPal, Transferwise and bank transfers are accepted. Please add 3% fees for PayPal payments. Please send the full amount on Transferwise. Shipping & handling is $15 CONUS and $40 for all other countries. Shipping is fully insured and of course the correct value will be used for custom purposes. If PayPal is used, I will ship only to verified addresses. I prefer to ship directly to the buyer, if other arrangements are made I will not be responsible after dropping off the shipment.
I have bought a few watches here on OF and I can provide you with feedback from EBay and Etsy if requested. The buyer may share feedback ratings on request.
Returns will not be accepted unless the watch is grossly different from the description. Please ask relevant questions before you commit to buying. After all, these are vintage and gently used watches.
Unfortunately, I am not a watchmaker and therefore cannot guarantee the future performance or water resistance of the watch. I do however try to describe the watch as accurately as possible. I wish this transaction to be win/win and I will do everything to make it so.
Thanks for your interest and to OF for the space and opportunity to post this FS ad.
