    Hi there,

My BIL (brother-in-law) is eyeing this older El Primero model. Seems like it's in mint condition. It's going for under $5k.

    Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Looks good from photos, though I am better with the old ones. These newer iterations are in that price range, if not a bit less, especially if without box/papers.

I never found a fake watch with El Primero movement that was even close to the look of a real zenith watch ... I suppose it is not interesting for fake-makers, and it is really difficult to make a fake movement of El Primero. And that’s good, you can buy with more confidence

That chronomaster 38 mm is on of the “best sellers” of the new Zenith, really great looking in my opinion

Thanks! You're on point that the El Primero is not a popular-enough watch to warrant fakes. My BIL ended up getting it and is loving it since he liked the older model. It came with papers, box, the card (matching the serial number on the back of the watch)...so it seemed legit. Think he paid $4600 in total.

    So awesome!

My BIL mentioned it's the same movement used in a Rolex and for the price, it's a bargain?

That is a much longer story, but the short of it is the EP movement and minor variants of it were in the Daytona from around 1985ish until when Rolex introduced the 4130 for the Daytona in 2000. That's the only time period and watch Rolex used the EP movement in. All the other rolex models have nothing to do with Zenith or the EP. Yes, you still have a great watch for a fair price. Again, I love mine. There are better historians around here if you want exact details. Enjoy!

It’s a fantastic watch. May I draw your attention to the buckle with the two screws on either side as it is the old model. There is a small risk that the screws get lost with the watch getting loose, hence Zenith is replacing them for free. I would get it changed for piece of mind (keep the original one).

    Thanks so much, Matt87!

It has been on my BIL's wishlist for quite some time as well. And he's so happy with it.

I hope you treat yourself in 2020 and get it!
