I’ve been listening to VH records all day. They bring out a lot of good memories...

Not rock, but Johnny Nash also passed away at age 80 today. RIP.

Original LP from my youthful lead guitar playing days. Fools 1:01 onwards, tried so hard and failed to play that

Played at 10 in the lab today (with a little help from iTunes, Bluetooth etc) as an antidote to 7 hours GoogleMeet.

EVH did something very important for guitar players: he popularized tapping. While musically innovative, this had the much more critical impact of making any non-guitar player think you were AWESOME if you could do even the most basic tapping licks.

Everyone was super annoyed at hearing me attempt a Randy Rhodes solo or something from Yngwie Malmsteen. But tap out the intro to Hot for Teacher and everyone would be soooo impressed. 😁

My brother was a year behind him in high school and has many stories of hearing him play backyard parties in Pasadena back in the day.

Lost another great one! 🙁

My first album was 5150. At 13, I asked for an electric guitar for Christmas and learned 'Aint Talkin' 'Bout Love, but alas my guitar career was short: I got a computer at 15 and that ended it. When I earned a statue in SimCity II, I named it "Eddie Van Halen".
