Found in a drawer after 40 years, Extract states German retailer and came with Gliders proficiency enamel badge often awarded to Luftwaffe trainee pilots pre 1939....
Nice watch. Those enamel badges are still handed out today to any glider pilot who obtains his “C” badge. From there a pilot can add additional achievements bronze, silver, gold, and diamond. Each for successively more difficult soaring accomplishments. It’s been a while since I got my C badge but IIRC it is given for an hour or more Soaring flight, more than 2 hours solo time, and a landing where the pilot picks a point and touches down and stops within 500’. It is one of the first badges a pilot will obtain. This one is a European badge as it lacks the N above the gulls indicating North America.
Hi, thanks for posting, looks nice. Is there any subject you want to discuss about the watch ? Would be great to see some natural light pics in addition. And also caseback outside and inside, thx. What is the serial No. ? I thought the Ed has more bevelled lugs, but I am not an expert as others here Best
As discussed in the past, it seems as though the cases in the 1964 model lacked the bevel, but this is a tough call from external appearances, because even when the bevel was present, it was often quite shallow and easily lost during a service that included case re-finishing.
