Hello all I'm looking to get some opinions. I have my late grandfather's Omega and just recently found out that is a 321 -64 Ed White. His brother from the 30's through 70's ran a repair shop in his basement and looks to at one point have replaced the dial as I have no reference or have not heard of anyone with a professional label -64. Do you all think it's worth paying out for the original dial or leave as is. Thanks and pictures of course.
Wow! Just been hanging out in the house the whole time... I would source an original dial to have on hand if one came around at a decent price point. However, if that's how Grandpa wore it and enjoyed it though, I wouldn't change it if the point is keeping grandad's watch in the family,
Chronograph hand is also replaced. It all depends on what your intentions are with this watch...are you looking to keep it and get it running and on the wrist? If so, and it doesn’t bother you, I would not fret, the hand matches the dial in terms of patina. And it’s a great color too. These dials are not that common, especially in nice condition, and he did that to it. It’s still a nice looking watch. You could patiently and diligently keep an eye out if it does bother you...and in the meantime give it a well deserved service.
A replaced Chrono hand does not surprise me at all. (And thank you for that info I knew I came to the best place for answers lol) More than likely my great uncle took it in on trade broken and repaired it then sold it to my grandfather. It runs very well and I wear it a couple times a week but I need it serviced and that scares me a bit. I don't want anything changed just lubricated to keep it running well and if something has to be replace then I guess that is better than the whole thing seizing up and then really damaging it. Thank you for the insight.
Yes good call might have to go to the oldest boy as a wedding present at some point. Was given to dad in 76 and me in 07 as a wedding gift. Thank you for the reply!
If you say where abouts in the world you live I’m sure you’ll get a decent recommendation for a sympathetic service. Just do not send it to Omega.
Yeah I definitely do not want to send it off I hear they just start replacing and polishing everything. I'm around St Louis. There is an Omega specific store here I'm going to start there. Thanks again!
>There is an Omega specific store Nope. Wrong place to start. I'm sure there's a OF recommended watch maker who can help you out in the area, or at least as close as Chicago
I would buy another Ed white and replace the necessary parts and sell the watch again to keep the watch of the grandpa. On the other hand this watch with the replaced dial is the grandpas watch. difficult. But I would probably the first idea.
I would just get it serviced by someone that knows his business and enjoy it. If then you find along away a nice dial at a decent price., why not restore the watch? It will always be your grandpa Watch, in the end
I wish I would have done this a few years ago..The replacements are out of my budget, well a chrono hand isnt terrible pricewise but I don't think I will ever find a dial that will match patinawise and at this point the median looks like 4-6 k for an original dial. I will keep an eye out for the heck of it. Thanks again all
