I have an Ed White that I bought from this very forum a couple of years ago. Prices seem to have gone crazy since and I have no intention of selling, but I do want to look into insuring it. If I post pictures of it on here, do you think you can give me your collective opinions on value please?

    Spec:
Decimeter Bezel - no marks scratches etc, like new.
    105.003-65
    Serial starts 254*****
Original dial and hands and plexi - I don't think it's ever been serviced.
    Original Box (inner & outer)
    Original Papers (serial numbers match)
    1035 Bracelet which hasn't stretched
    506 end links
    lovely patina to the lume

I keep the bracelet and end links in the box and have it on a vintage leather style strap. Watch isn't stored at home or workplace for security reasons obviously.

Maybe post a picture. People here love to see pictures. Might be easier to place it on the aforementioned speedmaster101 price chart.

I looked at that but it's head only prices and ranges are so wide $9,000 for good to $14,000 for very good then add up to 100% for patina, bezels, original boxes, papers etc. So thought a nice collective average value would be an interesting exercise rather than 1 persons opinion.

So what's the story with the decimal insert. I thought the 105.003s all had don inserts.

The booklet that comes with it clearly shows that you could have a choice of insert.
    1) Tachymetre - the usual choice
    2) Decimal as above (industrial timing)
    3) Telemetre (for measuring how far away a sound is caused by an event you can see e.g. when the sound from an explosion you can see reaches you, you'll know how far away the explosion was, suspect given it was mid-60's it was aimed at say recording how far away a plane making a sonic boom was)
    4) Pulsometric (for measuring human pulse rate)

Thanks, interesting stuff. It is strange how the prices of these have took off, I have seen threads on TZ of people who sold theirs 3 or 4 years ago for £3k to £4K and now on here nice examples are selling in the low teens. That is one hell of an increase.

Anyone got any idea how the value of a 105.003 Speedmaster with a decimal insert would compare in value of the same reference with a Dot over 90? ::confused2::

I thought the value of the DON bezel is:
    A) It is a correct bezel for the reference.
    B) It is a correct bezel for a number of other references.
Am I wrong in thinking that a watch fitted with a bezel with a decimal insert would not command a similar value?

(Anyway... it's a lovely watch! I think the decimal insert looks very neat.)

IMHO, I'd say that's the question between the bezel and the bezel, not with the watch they are with. The last known asking price for a vintage Decimal bezel is still less than what a mint DON is traded for, partly due to there are not many of them up for sale, and partly because the decimal bezel is most difficult to distinguish among the pulsation and the telemeters.
