I'm looking to pull the trigger on my first truly vintage watch below - any thoughts or observations would be greatly appreciated. My only concern at the moment is the sub-seconds dial. I've requested for better pictures but this is the best I got. No description of the movement provided but will rely on Eberhard's extract of the archive after purchasing the watch.
Vintage Eberhard is known, of course, for their lovely chronographs. That makes your selection of a niche three-hand watch from a niche chronograph supplier extra awesome in my book (hint: try also hunting for a time-only Heuer). A similar Eberhard example is shown here, slightly earlier than yours but with similar hands. Yours might date to the mid-1950s.
Not all dials were printed with 'Swiss' or 'Swiss Made.' Just have a look at some Longines/Omegas and Zeniths from the 30s-40s.
Don't see anything out of the ordinary here. Lines look crisp and even, 6 doesn't encroach into the subdial and markers are evenly spaced out.
I've seen this watch advertised, good value too I think. Q- is Bubba48 referring to the difference in dial colour between the minute and hour tracks? Could this indicate refinishing? By the way, im not saying that this is the case, im just, seeking to understand/interpret his POV? All the best Nathan
The concentric grooves in the subdial appear to have been filled in with paint, especially towards to outer edge.
I agree that you should see better photos of the dial... especially a macro shot of that subdial, if possible. Digital photography can make those concentric circles look pretty awful. I'm not sure whether the appearance is a result of re-painting or digital photo artifact.
