Received this mail from Ebay. In general I'm not a big fan of doing things like this for free but perhaps it may bring something. Anyone experience?

Yeah, I was on the eBay council for a couple of years. Apparently, my watch-buying history in particular made me eligible and desired. It didn't bring anything I wanted, e.g., the watch authentication program.

I've been on eBay panels both as a seller and buyer.

I was active on this panel for a wile several years ago.

My buying activity has dropped off dramatically in recent years and I suppose they stopped contacting me.

Tell them they should implement auctions that are automatically extended by 1-2 minutes when new bids are entered in the last few minutes. With the end of sniping, more sellers will use the auction format, and the platform will become relevant again.

The funny thing is that I have not bought or sold anything on eBay for a year or so

Yes I’m getting emails from them to join. Funny after selling about 20 watches in the last 18 months.

A suggestion: ask them to allow the buyer the ability to opt out of the authentication process.

A seller requests or is required to use the authentication.

The buyer decides they don't need or want the watch authentication and assumes the risk.

The watch is sent straight to the buyer.

What hour rates do they pay? Why should anyone do anything for free for a commercial company?

In Germany authenication presently is for free. In other countries this silly "service" costs a fee. eBay is preparing this rip-off as a general "model". So, they will for sure not provide an opt out option.

Commercial sellers are obliged by law to provide a 14-days "cooling-off" period for returns without cause, so no reason for any "authentication" by the so-called eBay experts.

During the time when I still was at eBay, I contacted commercial sellers directly for mutually agreeing direct delivery. So that the eBay "experts" cannot harm the objects. But soon eBay began threatening the sellers really hefty, if they "circumvent" the eBay "authenication". They do not at all mind if this is mutual and the expressed will of both parties.

Forget eBay .... 😗 😎

Who pays for the authentication process if required or otherwise? I have sold watches from Australia to the USA through eBay and this authentication process was ever bought up, how come? Just certain countries? Who are the authenticators?

For watches over US$2,000, eBay pays. Which means the sellers indirectly pay, as they are the ones paying the fees to eBay.

I believe that for watches less than $2,000, the buyer can request the service at additional cost.

I get these and don't click on the links in case they are phishing attempts.
