Just recently put an item on ebay after not selling anything for years. Ebay bounced the listing 3 times for infringement of obscure things like placing in two relevant categories, not naming a brand etc. They have subsequently sent me an outline of costs incurred to date which includes 4 sets of listing fees.
This will be my last ebay listing can't be doing with the hassle and then charging me for the "service" of being so awkward.

I completely left them when they started charging taxes. It's honestly the worst place.
It's on par with a pawn shop.

i think ebay charges an advertising fee, sort of, if you cancel or withdraw your sale, like if there is no buyer at all.

I will just revive my thread to vent a bit, I use eBay both for trading and collecting

Recently sold a watch on eBay, seller immediately changed his mind, happens and should be able to happen, I immediately approved the cancellation as well, it's not an easy process but I believe it's a right to change one's mind, even if it's after shipping/delivery etc. - this was waaay before all of that

You'd think that this would be the end of it, but nope, cancellation got stuck in pending, I tried to help the buyer by spending hours with eBay customer service, the buyer tried, the buyer eventually gave up and started waiting

The shipping time passed, item not shipped, nothing happened

The verification time passed, item not shipped, it's still not cancelled - buyer gave up completely

I'm still trying to reach someone who'll give non-generic answers but failing, the buyer is the one who's actually losing money, but he has nothing to do as he's unable to communicate with anyone

From this transaction, eBay's fee was (is) almost $200 ...

On the other end of the spectrum, an item can get temporarily stuck in shipping, and a buyer can potentially get both his money back and the item later on

Just a weird ecosystem overall, I don't use eBay much for selling now, but for buying logic is obviously out the window 馃榿

However ever since recent changes, I've never actually bought a watch, probably because anyone who's not too desperate would just make the mistake of selling once, or mark something up so high that it's no longer feasible

If they just lowered the fees and made things more practical, it would be an awesome platform again, but currently ...

Ebay is just the worse, on top of the expensive sellers fees the customer service is beyond bad.

Ebay have requested me to update my bank account details in order to receive payouts, after trying to update them for 7 times and trying with 3 different bank accounts I keep getting the same error message. And only way to contact the customer service is by email and with an hopefully estimate of 24-48 hour response, I sent them the email yesterday and also wrote to them on Facebook but with only an automatic reply there.

I just sold a watch on there and the buyer have made the payment today, but I'm afraid Ebay will not sort this thing out and therefore I'm hesitating to ship the watch yet.

Anyone else sorted out this problem? Or anyone else successfully got in touch with the right support?

One good thing about being a U.S. buyer no VAT and I have never paid custom taxes from buying on eBay from Europe only once鈥檚 where I bought a new watch directly from the manufacturer and they used FedEx dam FedEx sent me a tax bill. Maybe the us tax man to lazy. Never sold on eBay just bought only sold at NAWCC marts we鈥檙e I use to live that was every other month and a few on some forums sale sections was more easy selling that way. The NAWCC marts were best straight cash or a trade. I am more of a buyer since I moved to Montana about 6-8 years ago think I only sold 3 watches. One at a mart in Idaho and two on the forums I am a pack rat.

eBay doesn't charge taxes. Governments do.

It took them about a week to get my bank stuff correct. I will probably never sell anything on eBay again though. No other site can compete with them as far as exposure goes but their fees have climbed to much for me over the past 22 years I've been a member there. I will probably continue to buy there. I've had a lot of luck buying cheap on eBay and selling on specialty sites for a big profit.

I believe you should send it, as the money will just be held - also if you don't send it, the buyer is losing like 3% as paying has a stupid cost too that you can't always get back - I try to use an HSBC credit card that has a ~1% effective fx fee, but sometimes I have to use another card that has a 4% fee!

I enjoyed buying the occasional C-Case on eBay, but ever since the recent increase, there's a noticeable decline in listings, pretty much no exciting listing any more. To be honest 22% is just too much as an effective fee - if they pull it to 6.5% for all watches, it'll probably become 11% in total for international sellers, far below 10% if they eliminate their "1.55% International Fee" - they pay vat themselves on the fees and use Wise instead of Payoneer, who take another 3% and lately far more

I鈥檓 assuming that you can still take advantage of the various eBay promotions on sellers fees or is the watch category excluded?
