Anybody grab this one? I was watching it end and it finished up at € 777 which was too much for me. I liked it for the dial of course but it would really need re-casing to bring it back up to presentable. That coupled with the lack of any movement shots was enough to hold me back from putting a decent bid in. http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Vintage-1960...ristwatch-Automatic-Working-V28-/391626180228Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Could be the pictures, but to my eye the case edges look quite soft and there looks to be some wear to the gold top. I had an 18kt waffle one of these years back, it had been aggressively polished and had ended up with rounded lugs, it just looked awful to me, maybe I'm still scarred from the experience?
In my experience, there is a significant variance for this reference in terms of case material - the steel ones can be sharp but the gold cap and solid gold versions appear to have softer edges. Or course with time the gold cap and solid gold versions would be more susceptible to wear but in the nicest examples that I've seen the case is never as sharp as the nicest stainless steel versions - even taking into account the fact that gold is the softer substance.
That is why I asked - If I had missed something. When I saw it I actually thought it was quite an OK case. No bits of cap missing and sort of nice considering its age - a 50ies watch. Would clean up nicely (again - for its age). Getting rid of that hidious crystal would be the first thing.
