eBay Fake Planet Ocean 2901.50?

Hey all, recently received a Planet Ocean from a reputable eBay seller in the United States and it passed authentication. However, I noticed some flaws with the piece. I’ve owned a 2201.50 in the past and knew the caseback was inscribed with planet ocean on the under arch, seahorse in the middle with the omega logo and the laser engraved Omega globe. This particular watch ( ref 2901.50) has Planet Ocean inscribed twice on the caseback. Also, the crown appear misaligned on the Omega logo. I’m not sure if the age of the watch and tarnish is messing with my eyes but the crown logo looks funny to me. The movement, dial, hands, and bezel all look right. I’m not sure if the 2901.50 was a newer version than the 2901.50 and Omega changed it all later on. My understanding was both references were the same but one had a bracelet and one did not. The seller is denying it’s counterfeit and offered a refund but I’m curious if im overreacting or if there’s something to this. Thanks in advance. Serial number on the watch is 81062147. I’m including photos taken at various angles. I’m wondering mainly 1. Was this caseback design ever used even for a short time 2. Does the tarnish around the crown logo create an optical illusion or does the logo deform over time. - thanks, Ryan.

Without knowing much about that reference, I can at least confirm that none of the photographs I can find have the double "Planet Ocean" engraving on the caseback, and that includes the top several dozen I see from a Google image search for "omega 2901.50.00 caseback."

(Also, it would help if you could add photographs taken in natural light without the glare.)

That kind of tarnish on the crown logo seems funky to me with stainless steel. If the body were silver, that would be one thing. But other than that catching my eye I cannot offer anything useful. Omega site says they are stainless steel or 18K gold, neither of which would tarnish (unless the stainless had been exposed to a lot of harsh conditions of chemicals or saltwater. duh. saltwater) But even then! High quality stainless steel is supposed to retain its shine.

Is it tarnish thou? To me it looks like the last remnants of polish steel around the logo of an hard life crown. But we need better picures.

I already packaged the watch up to be returned to eBay authentication. The seller refuses to admit the watch, at the very least, has a counterfeit case back and continues to say the watch is authentic. This same seller, who will remain unnamed for the time being, is one of the biggest sellers on eBay and Chrono24. Based on their response they intend on reselling the watch but hopefully eBay will do the right thing and flag it or something but I still don’t understand how it got the stamp of approval…

If it helps you argue your case with Ebay....here are some clear pics of the same reference from one of my for sale threads last year. (the watch is sold; just including the pics/link to help you out)
Thank you, it seems as if the seller wants to resolve the issue so hopefully that’s the end of it. Just hard for me to trust on where to purchase now.

I deleted my reply. I saw your mention of the 2201.50 in your post, but then re-read it and noticed you were talking about a different reference number. Sorry about that.

I think the only difference between those references is strap vs. bracelet.

case back also does not have the authenticity seal (globe) that I believe should be on that models caseback

Mine is a 2209.50, it only has one planet ocean engraving and no globe. It still has the plastic seal on the back, I don't know how much if at all it helps due to being a different reference.

This particular watch is a ref. 29015091 on the rubber strap. The case back on these only come with 1 planet ocean engraving, so this is definitely an odd one.

This is an odd one. Usually fake cal. 2500 POs can be spotted from a mile away. But for the double engraved caseback, this piece looks legit.
