For sale is a beautiful Rolex 1603 with no lume dial. Bamboo bezel and butterfly rotor. Age: ca. 1960 Price: 3.495 euro Dial: Very nice no lume dial showing patina. The dial has got the early 60ies vibe with beautiful markers. Case: The watch has got a strong case with a bamboo bezel. These bamboo bezels have only been delivered on early 1603's. Innercaseback also stating 1960 and 1603. Hands: No lume hands matching with dial. Movement: Runs and winds smooth however service history unknown so no warranty on functioning. Movement has the butterfly rotor. Bracelet: Jubilee (6251 with 55 endlinks) clasp code 67 in good condition. Picture shows maximum stretch. Returns: No returns unless no authentic Rolex.
I believe that bezel style was also known as crenellated (little openings for the guns to stick out on the side of the fort); it was more common on earlier Datejusts like the 6605. Very nice!
The bezel you’re mentioning is a little different. Whereas the bamboo has clustered marks of 3 stripes (hard to explain especially since I’m not a native speaker) the 6605 bezel has higher parts and lower parts. The higher parts are glossy whereas the lower parts are ribbed:
Killer early DJ for this price? Sure it’s not a grey dial...but unless my mental pricing for these is way off, I’m confused as to how it’s still here.
