I would welcome members thoughts on this Constellation.
I'm still watching the Seamaster I mentionned last week. It seems the prices in the UK are higher than in the US.

I apologise if I seem to be taking rather than giving more at present but I'm trying to 'get on the ladder of ownership'

For convenience, can you just link directly to it? When I tried to find it there were 0 results so the number must be wrong.

Well it is real and seems good shape and it is returnable if you don't like it. It is a great caliber. Comes with a nice band. $850 does not seem out of line for UK prices. I'd make an offer if you like it

I'm not 100% sold on the dial on this watch being original. All the Ref. 168.045/368.845 dials look like this:

Note the absence of the raised "Omega" lettering on this dial.

Now, there was another model that used a very similar case, but contained a non-chronometer rated cal. 752 movement. That was the Ref. 366.0857. Mondodec wrote a review of that particular model here:

    http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/2010/07/uncommon-omega-constellation-calibre.html

Note that the eBay watch seems to have the dial with the raised lettering from the cal. 752 version and the "officially certified" script on the dial. I've not seen one like that before.

While I've learned to never say never when it comes to vintage Omegas, the fact that I can't find another example with the same combination of dial, movement and case on what is otherwise a rather common example of a Constellation doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. At nearly US$900, I'd need to feel pretty warm and fuzzy to make an offer.

Something doesn't feel right with this one,

P.S. I don't think the hands are right, either.

You do know that isn't a Speedmaster, right?

Thanks for that, I was about to make an offer but checked back here first.

    It's a minefield out there!

I did a bit of research to check out Evans conclusions. It is a model I have never owned or held, but have always admired. I expected to see some variation in the dials of these two watches. I found none. In fact I looked at quite a few examples and all back-up Evan's observations and conclusions 100%. While it may seem odd to take a chronometer model and use a refinished dial from a lessor model, dealers do a lot of things that seem dumb. It is quite possible that this is some variant of the dial that Omega produced late in the production but, in the absent of assurance, caution would be the better course to take. Great catch E.

I really hope Desmond is out there lurking on this one. That dial looks awfully good and Omega did a lot of weird things in the early 1970's.

I thought Dennis was supposed to get that Desmond bat call thing hooked up?

I've contacted the seller and he claims that the watch dial and hands are 100% correct.
