Hi guys, well aren't I sick as a dog this morning. Last week I dropped my beautiful 1951 bumper Seamaster. At first I thought I had gotten away with it as it continued working. Fast forward a week after the power reserve ran out and guess what? Not working [emoji22]. Being relatively new to vintage watches I've never had the need to use a watchmaker. I live in the east of England and am looking for someone to become my watchmaker. Having googled I've only found one remotely local, they are quoting £360 for a service on a bumper so I dread to think what this will cost me. Does anyone know of any alternatives so I can do some comparisons?

Could be a pivot was damaged on one of the gears. Worst case you damaged the balance

Have you tried hand winding it a little to check?

Yes you need a service. Yes it's going to cost you. Care for ANY mechanical watch is going to cost you. That's the reality of collecting and wearing these complex little machines. It's great however to see /hear them ticking again. They don't take kindly to dropping or being knocked.

Just got the watch back from John Senior. 2 weeks is all it took in the end and i'm very happy to have a working watch once again. Turns out there was nothing broken after all, it just needed a bloomin good service. He did say there was a screw jamming two wheels though. Must have come loose when it was dropped?

Yes, probably. Actually, you are lucky no part had to be replaced!
