Feel for you. On the good side it is a new watch so a service dial is not that bad

To shatter like that it must have fallen with some force. Is it insured under your house insurance ?

I don't know about the OP but my deductible for home is $1000 so would definitely not be worth making a claim for something like this.

I guess that we will all be different depending on individual policies, my excess is £300 so for me it would be a £700 saving, not sure what it would bump my premiums up by the following year though.

I can only imagine the feeling you had as the watch landed on the floor! Sorry to hear about it and even more sorry after seeing the pics. I'm wearing my Z-Blue now and will be more cautious than usual as I handle it. Good luck with the repair and post pics when you get it back.

Surprisingly it wasn't a really bad drop. From about standing height, bounced off the lid of a (soft) suitcase, then onto a hard tiled floor. I was really surprised at the amount of damage when I picked it up!!

It's a crystalline structure, you could have dropped the watch directly on the tiles and not a jot of damage. However, if a corner of tile hits the sweet spot on the crystal then it's all over red rover.

A bit like an old world diamond cutter finding the sweet spot. A single light tap with the cleaver and you have two perfect rough diamonds. Pick the wrong spot and you end up with some polishing grit.

I'm sure it'll be back to normal after the service.

This happened to a friend of mine, also with a modern Milgauss. The fix through Rolex wasn’t cheap or quick, but I have to say they did great work and now it’s something he can laugh over. I hope the same for you very soon!

The way you have explained that makes a lot of sense. It looks like the impact angle was oblique, likely because it bounced of a suitcase lid

I’ll bet you will need a new dial and yes Rolex will insist on full service.

This is why I love my vintage acrylic crystal. As stated above, the watch has taken a big it, I would at least put it on the timegrapher to check it.

Longish turnaround but great end result, so it's been worth it :)
