Downsizing

Anyone else have a giant bin of watch straps and bracelets? My Omega watches alone I have at least one bracelet for each (I like bracelets) and multiple straps.

Just how many straps per watch do I need, really? In some cases there's half a dozen. Plus, I don't know what I'm doing with some of the watches I have, much less contemplate getting more (though of course you know I want more).

Trying to figure out where my priorities lie with the pieces I have. Then I have to figure out what the heck to do with all of these damned straps. Some are cheap junk. Some are not.

If you have recently downsized and sent things away to different people or places I would like to hear what you did.

Thanks

Funny. Yesterday evening I threw away like 40 straps in the garbage can. I was attaching metal bracelets on watches to see how they fit

Free to a good home thread. Have given away more stuff than I have sold over the years.

Was asked a few questions by a young fella at school/uni working part time. Sent him a few straps for free and paid postage a couple of months later. Made his day.

Sent @UncleBuck a present and he wanted to pay postage. I got him to send me a BassPro sticker so he paid a little postage.

Sent @Frunkinator a strap for his wife for free that was supper small. (Dennis put it on a watch I bought to be a smart arse)

Feels good to give to others that have helped over the years.

That’s what I like about the forum.

Free to good home is the best way, one man’s junk is another’s treasure. Put up a FS posting with pics of the lot for free- taker pays postage- and it will be gone fast. I have a ton of NATO’s that are probably going that route.
I also have several vintage pieces that aren’t worth much but we’re fun for a hot minute and are now taking up space. Post them up here for $50 or whatever and get them gone...always people here looking for good gifts or cheap thrills.
And if you guys are chucking older straps
that came on vintage watches, I’m in need of buckles. Just had a bunch of custom straps done and I hate everything that seems available on the market. I’m currently looking for ones like these in steel:

On another forum I'm on, there's a box of bits (watches, straps, buckles, dials etc etc) that gets sent to any member that wants it - the box is up to about 1kg at the moment. You take what you want, add what you don't want, then send it on to the next member on the list. As long as no one empties the lot for themselves it works a treat, plus you get rid of a few bits you don't want anymore. As was mentioned above, one man's trash is another's treasure.

I like this idea, might it be worth doing “in country” rather than bouncing a kilo round the world? Avoid cost/customs issues.

Good idea but yeah, I know how that'd go.

MEL-DAR / DAR-MEL / MEL-DAR / DAR-MEL.

Hey @STANDY, enough with the straps'n'stuff! How about sending a watch instead?

Oh, hang on, you already did!

😁

Hm some good ideas. I need to separate the definite keepers from the things that can go. For example, I don’t need a half dozen straps after I now have the US flat link!

I’ve purchased many lightly worn straps from members here, if they are nice then post them for sale. Being able to get something like a JPM for $30 shipped is a treat- might as well be free

I’ve started playing around with making straps, so older buckles are needed to complete them.

You never know who will need those rotted out straps and watch parts, but offering our spares up for re-use would be great.
