Would you exchange an Omega Apollo 11 45 anniversary full set new with plastic for an Omega Spectre full set but used?
Personal decision, really. Market value on both is a wash. The Speedy is 3.5x rarer and that's the only redeeming quality in the trade.
you are right, the value of the Apollo is superior at the moment, I think that economically it would make a bad change, but I love the James Bond Omega, I will try another solution
I thoroughly enjoy my Apollo 45th. Mine will not be going anywhere. However, you have to decide for yourself which you would enjoy wearing more.
Not a big fan of the 45th anniversary, but no way would I trade it for a Spectre. The Speedy has it beat hands down, and that's saying a lot, as to my eyes it strays a little too far from the standard formula that works in a Speedy Pro Moonwatch (via a 3D dial that still feels too flat and monochrome). One commemorates a pivotal moment in history, and the other commemorates a middling Bond movie. Don't do it.
They've commemorated Apollo 11 with a LE Speedy way too many times. I'm expecting a SpaceX Tesla Speedmaster as their method of refreshing the line.
So if you'd prefer to commemorate James Bond's watch that help'd him escape from Blofeld, that's your choice. I just gave my opinion that the Apollo LE is a more important piece in my mind than the Spectre watch. It's not even a proper diver with the bidirectional bezel and no lume pip, so a 300M diver that can't dive. Then again some people drive around in a Speed Racer Mach 5 replica, and it can't jump over traffic jams and they're still happy with it. But that Speedmaster can survive the vacuum of space.
I think the Spectre is quote cool but I honestly don't think it is so different from the standard non-LE SM300MC to justify the LE premium. I would hold onto the Apollo 11 45th and purchase a standard SM300MC. I got my "Bond" NATO strap as part of my SM300MC deal with the OB. I would not trade my Apollo 11 45th for any other watch. I do think it is a very unique Speedy LE with design cues from the Apollo 11 Lunar Module and the moon surface, making the overall package a very cool, distinctive watch...but this is all personal / subjective taste...so at the end of the day if the Apollo XI-45 does not rock your boat, trade it in for whatever you want. On a more general note: if I was hesitant about any watch purchase at this time of year, I would wait until seeing the new Basel 2018 releases before taking the leap. My photos below:
