I have this watch for a number of years. It’s a mid-size cal. 04 that was released in 2006. It is a limited edition with a rose gold case. It has a black dial with a small second. No date. A plain and simple three hands watch. Every time I take it out, it has never fail to fascinate me with its simplicity and its very well finished movement. I love the hand engraving on main plate and the design pattern on the balance cock. This is solid old school German watch making. No nonsense here...

Actually, I kind of like this old school, no-nonsense design. Well done.

That is beautifully elegant. What size/dimensions does it have? It appears to be a bit chunkier than a classical dress piece. Or is it due to lens distortion that it seems that way.

Why would Kalbe (and for that matter Glashütte) wish to emphasize that they are in Saxony?

Are there other German cities of same name but in a different state?

Now that i think about it, other watches dont normally indicate the city or region. Usually, we can only see Swiss or Japan. So for German watches, why not say Germany?

My mistake. There are other watches that say Geneve. And London.

This Cal. 04.0 is based on an old GUB German movement which has been given additional work by the watch maker, Dirk Dornblueth.
You can see the blue screws, the gold chatons, hand-engraved balance cock and sunburst finish of the main barrel.
The case is 38mm and with a height of about 11mm. So it is fairly "chunky" as you put it but the thin bezel helps.
The winding is smooth but not exactly "buttery". Power reserve is 36 hours and runs at 2.5hz.
If I recall correctly, this Cal. 04.0 was produced as a limited run of 75 pieces. Serial number 5 to 19 (total 15) are in Rose Gold while the rest are in stainless steel in total.

One of the most underrated Independents in the watch scene. They have solid dial and case designs. I can appreciate the "precision instrument" look they have. I also like the way they display the dial of the watch in the box.
I love yours. Enjoy it for many years to come.

D. Dornblueth & Sohn has a website and maybe it sheds some lights about the way they mark their watch dial.
Apparently, they also though about "why not say Germany" - as I noticed in their later pieces there is the marking "Made In Germany".

Love this brand - strikes me as very similar to some of the Glashutte Original offerings (also love these) but a little more down to earth. I'd love to see more of these out in the wild

Your asking why a German watch company would be more specific then usual? 😉

I do like the East German design sensibility. Your watch is a handsome beast. It’s important to support independents.

I love everything about this watch.
The beautiful black regulator dial with white subdials that stand out.
The black hands over white and the white minute hand over black.
The copper? colored second hand.
Not to mention the red stitching of the strap.
Overall a very great looking Dornbluth.
