I have never owned or paid much attention to Tag Heuer. I just won this watch in a mixed auction lot (I have not received it yet or I would provide better images). I am having trouble finding any other examples of the Professional 200 meter that have this three lines of text on the dial or the logo on the bracelet. Commonly there seems to be two lines of text "professional and 200 meters" or a third line of text on GMT models. Also the bracelet logo is odd. Any opinions on the authenticity or lack of would be appreciated.
I don’t know whether others are like me, regarding not wanting to be the first one to call a watch, a fake! But I’ll go,out on a limb here, and do exactly that! A bad fake!
That is hilarious- I thought the same thing when I saw it but couldn’t place where I had seen it. Sorry OP- hope you have some other goodies in the lot that make it worth it. These link style Heuer’s were very popular back in the day, thus lots of fakes from back then
Thanks Gents. That is exactly what I thought. I too love the pepper grinder analogy. Perfect. Anyway, I bought the lot for an Omega Bumper, early 50s. Just happened to have this imposter in it as well.
1953 per Serial #. Sorry, no movement pics tight now. Replacement crown, aftermarket strap but otherwise pretty clean and running nicely. Very Short Reserve.
Yeah, that jumped out at me too... I don't consider myself an expert by any stretch; but the painting on the redial... yikes.
Hopefully the OP noticed it and it was a watch he decided he liked anyway. I think if I did a redial it might look something like that although I don’t think I could get the writing even the straight. In all honesty that’s probably much better than I could do.
Yes, I saw it and was not certain. I should have realized the script looks like mush. Thanks for the input. I paid little for this lot. $120 for this one and the fake Tag plus two Citizen Eco Drives. Ill keep the bumper because the movement is cool and resell the rest. Auction site: CTBids.com
I'm only selling the two Eco-Drives. I should have been more specific. We own a large auction house. Been in business for 11 years. Fully aware of the laws. Sorry that I was not clear. I did sound like I intended to sell the fake tag. In our business we clean out many estates every year. We find a lot of watches. It's crazy how many are fakes. We always throw these away. Probably 60 or more per year. Ive also found some real winners. I don't always know an authentic from a fake. That's one reason why I joined this forum, to educate myself. That and I contracted the Omega watch bug. I take a couple watches a month to my watch maker for authentication just to be sure we are not selling any fakes.
Even though there are many fakes out there, some have decent movements (lots of fake Rolex’s with ETA movements in them). Rather than just throw in the trash, perhaps give them to your watchmaker to keep the movement, then destroy the rest with a hammer. Could be good for getting aggression out.
