Greetings Omegaforums. I am having a crisis of Speedmaster. I own a 145.014 Mark II Racing Dial which I love everything about except the case wears so tall on the wrist. When I look down my arm at it, the case seems so thick and chunky I feel like I'm in the Campbell's Soup isle. I'm having thoughts of buying a Moonwatch since it's about 1mm thinner and that thickness is broken up by the case/bezel/domed glass VS the Mark II being all case. Can anybody who owns or has worn both offer up their opinion on how they compare? A subtle difference and I will press on with the Mark II and it's lovely orange and gray livery. Significant improvement and I may have to sell out for a moonwatch. Thanks!
They're quite different watches to wear. The MKII on an 1162(?) Bracelet always feels really well balance to me but my 145.022 on a 1039 is incredibly light and almost forgettable by comparison. My older 2998 always seems much heavier than the .022. Frankly, they're all superb watches and you can enjoy each for what it is.
Try it on a strap. Sometimes I find quite counter-intuitively, a thin leather NATO strap can make a watch actually feel slimmer on the wrist.
I have both and agree that the Mk II looks and feels a good bit chunkier than the 145.022 - the only solution, in my professional and expert opinion, is to have both and wear them on different days.
Yeah despite actual measurements, appearance alone makes it seem slimmer....IMO. As mentioned above, try it on a different strap to see if that makes any difference for you.
Thank you for your insights. I've only ever worn the watch on a strap because when I size the 1162 bracelet to my wrist it won't fit over my hand. The clasp doesn't add enough slack to accommodate my less than Vitruvian proportions. Is there a fix for this condition?
