Don Draper Omega Seamaster De Ville Redial? Black Dial

Hi, I'm new to the forum but have been an Omega enthusiast for most of my collecting life. My first high end watch was an Omega Constellation gifted to me by a remarkable friend. I now have a Genta Polaris, an exhibition back Moon Watch among others and I just acquired a pre-Genta Pie Pan. I just received this watch in a trade. When I posted it to a Facebook Omega group some were convinced it was a redial so I thought I'd come to the experts. I have found Black Dial Seamster De Villes with variants which mimic mine - the Swiss Made being separated further apart; the cross line not going through the Omega Logo. I'm taking it to my watchmaker tomorrow but I would welcome your thoughts please....

In my opinion, this seems like a re-dial : both 'S's look rather off to me.

I thought that at first but here's a variant I found on Hodinkee that has the same s.

They’re also not the same. Yours has a broken crosshair.

I know they're not the same. I've found broken crosshairs too. I mean it's possible that there are just lots of redials because of the popularity of the watch. But is it also possible that there are variations?

I know you want it to be original, but it isn’t.
There are more redialed black SMDV’s than original ones.

No, I'm cool either way. I just want to know for certain. I acquired it in a trade and if it's not what I thought it was then I might return it. If I go back to the guy then I really want to be sure. Make sense?

I assure you it’s a redial. Can you find another original SMDV where the M in automatic has vertical sides?

That’s just one tell. There are several.

So next question, as I acquired it in a trade and was planning on selling it, as long as I'm honest about the redial, is it worth anything? My watchmaker will open it up tomorrow to see what's inside and assuming it all checks out... can I sell it?

These watches are popular, and redials are almost as valuable to non-collectors who don't care. I'm always shocked what they go for on eBay. It makes no sense to us, but the market of non-collectors is much larger than the market of collectors, and they want these watches. Not as much as when Mad Men was actually popular, but they're still desirable.

Wasn’t the actual watch used in Mad Men a redial too? From one POV all these freshly painted SMDVs above and on eBay are a closer homage to that show than an original watch. Not for me but there clearly is a market for them.

Hey everyone! Today, I have a special watch from the early 60s up for sale.

For those who might not know, one of Don Draper's watches on "Mad Men" was a black crosshair dial Omega...

You can see clearly how the coat-hanger 'S' should look on an original, as opposed to how it looks on the re-dials (and similarly for the 'M' in 'automatic')
