Looks as though these are going to crack the US$1000 mark before the hammer comes down. DON-omania, or new price level? http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...n=-1&saslc=1&_salic=1&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=200Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
If I had 5 of them to sell, I wouldnt put them on the market at the same time....... With these prices, exact copies must be reproduced soon.....
Its getting crazy with those prices. I recently bought a complete case with good DON bezel and nice early '69 case back for less than those prices
A link to such, please? Exact copies and quality as originals normally bring down prices on the old stuff. At least that how it works with vintage cars..... Thanks.
Agree it's not good if you try and pass one off as an original, but what if you have a "keeper" that for your own aesthetic reasons would like a DON but struggle to justify current prices?....just a thought!
You could extend that argument to say what if you wanted a Rolex Submariner but struggle to justify buying one at current prices, and there's a guy on the internet selling one for $200. Its counterfeit, and that's really all there is to it, whether parts or watches fake is fake. We don't allow fakes here as they devalue real Omegas and in this case fake DON bezels would devalue genuine ones. Its just not acceptable to let those guys win.
I agree with you and given the option would clearly want a NOS DON bezel which unfortunately to my knowledge don't exist. I suppose I've extended the argument one step too far. Unfortunately I suspect there are many out there with a wrong bezel who will soon have to fork out £1000!
I'm actually a little surprised that it's taken this long for fake DON's to make their presence known. Seems to be an inevitable repercussion of the strong vintage Speedy market.
It would be helpful if some more light could be shed on these fakes to help people avoid being conned.
Well, if they are truly that good, it gets metaphysical quickly. If the replica is truly absolutely indistinguishable from the original, then...what is the difference? Which is real, and which is fake? Are there truly no details to distinguish them from one another, Achim?
If the copy DONs were out in the open for all to see life would be considerably easier! I have never seen a link to these for sale. If they are out there and as good as reported then should I be bidding on any DON bezel? I suspect the watchco bezels ( am I right in thinking the bezels for sale are from watchco? ) have as good a provenance as one could hope for but what will happen to prices if there are copies as good as described?
I purchased a NOS bezel insert from this seller and am on the hunt for a empty bezel. Any leads on acquiring an empty bezel?
If you bought. DON insert, just buy a service bezel and change inserts. I have not seen any for sale recently without an insert, though they must exist.
