So, I have a 2998-4 with a pretty beat up DON and a 145.012 with a really nice DON.
First question, are these bezels interchangeable on these two? If so,
second question, aesthetics aside, would the value of the 2998 go up proportionately more
than the 145 with the nicer bezel?

    Hey dgercp,

    Of course pics would help!

Bezels have been assigned their own value on speedmaster101. I'd imagine the value of the watch as a whole would be in step with the value of the bezel as a component..

Opinions may vary on whether it's the right thing to do.

Be sure to disclose if you ever sell if you do swap... ::stirthepot::

    Edit:

    Of course,

"Once again you have to use you head and remember these are all arbitrary valuations."

    And

"If you use this table use your head too."

    Here you go:

Aesthetically I think the bezels work best with the dials the way they are now.
But would the nicer bezel increase the value of the 2998 above just what the normal difference in value is of the two bezels based on condition? I am guessing no.

Imho, it depends on your goals. If for wearing, I agree they look better as they are, more age appropriate in each case.

If selling, well, I think the value on the 2998 would be higher with the better condition bezel.

I like them as they're now. The first one is perfect for wearing with no worries at all.
Agree with the increase of value with the better one, and also agree with always disclosing!

I've been looking for info regarding the manufacturing of the bezels, were there a couple different parts suppliers as with the cases? In some instances the same era bezels appear to be incrementally larger font for the numerals. I'm probably talking .1 mm but there appears to be a difference.

    Thanks,
So you think bezels on 2998 and 145.012 are NOT interchangeable?

Well owing to age, wear, minor spec differences and common practice, I think historically and by practice they are defacto interchangeable.
Whether they should be is another matter.
