    Movement S/N dates it to 1969. Others will advise you on the dial . . . but everything else looks pretty tidy.

    True. But this sometimes happens. And all the bits that are there look like a late cal 552, with the second iteration swan-neck.

    Don't like the potential for frankenization here. That dial might be refinished or a service replacement with later fonts. The case is heavily polished too.

    But surely no-one is suggesting that a late steel Geneve is a mega-desirable collector's piece which will be stored in a vault? I mean, provided that it is cheap, then this is the sort of watch you can wear every day. What I would call a "gardening watch". So as long as it is tidy, and pleases your senses when you glance at it to see if the pub is open yet, then a bit of case polish or faded movement plating really matters not one jot . . . and that first scratch on the crystal will not be a matter for remorse and heartache.
